Song Reveal Guide
Table of Contents
Step 1: Choose where to do it
You have countless options for the location; keep a few things in mind:
- Background noise – lots of background noise makes it harder to hear the lyrics. Choose a quiet environment if possible.
- Access to speakers – the song sounds better through decent speakers. Think of a Bluetooth speaker, soundbar, or car speakers.
- Internet connection – make sure your WiFi or 4G/5G is stable so the song can play without interruptions. Downloading is also fine.
- Device volume – check that your phone/laptop volume is high enough.
- Privacy – choose an environment where you feel comfortable and the reaction can be spontaneous.
Example locations
- At home (e.g., the living room, kitchen, or garden).
- In the car (connected to the speakers for the best sound).
- At a special moment (birthday, dinner, party) – ideal if you were already planning to play it there.
Step 2: Plan how to reveal it
For a real surprise, you want to grab their attention and let them listen, without revealing too early that the song is about them – until the moment arrives.
Example techniques
- Say something like: "I heard this song recently and thought it was so beautiful." or "I heard this on the radio and immediately thought of you."
- Ask a question: "Do you know this song?" or "Shall I play you a song?" – then press play.
- Text first, then play: Send your partner a message to get them to come to you or get their attention, then play the song right after.
- Hint subtly – without revealing anything: "This is one of my favorites lately."
Step 3: Do a test run
It's smart to test the moment at least once. This way you know for sure that everything will go smoothly.
Test checklist
- Does the song play without issues (no stuttering)?
- Is the volume clear and pleasant to listen to?
- Do your speakers and/or phone work as expected?
- Is your internet connection stable enough?
Step 4: Film it
Capturing the moment makes it extra special – and it also helps us inspire future customers.
Tips
- Let them listen without revealing – the recipient should not yet realize the song is about them.
- Stabilize the camera – a stable recording (phone on dashboard, shelf, or tripod) delivers much better results than handheld.
- Be in the frame too – it's special to see both the giver and recipient.
- Choose the right distance – make sure faces and reactions are clearly visible.
- Be present in the moment – let the recording just run and enjoy.
Example places to film
- In the car – put your phone on the dashboard and start recording.
- At home – place your phone somewhere inconspicuous with a good view of both of you.
- Have someone else film – the most 'natural' approach; ask someone to calmly film from a distance.
Tip: Practice briefly how you're going to film before the actual reveal moment.
Step 5: Share your reaction video and get your money back
We love seeing these moments – and we're happy to give you a full refund of your song cost if you share a reaction video with us that meets the criteria below and that we find suitable for our marketing.
Criteria
- It must be the very first time the recipient hears the song.
- The surprise must be real and genuine.
- The recipient must not realize they're being filmed.
- The song recipient is clearly visible throughout the video. Ideally the giver is also visible (at least briefly)!
